Product Description:
Glutamine Matrix HP goes well beyond typical high carbohyrdate, energy and recovery products of the past with a formula that is designed for athletes who want to boost energy, workout recovery, increase lean mass and reduce free-radical damage caused by intense exercise. Glutamine Matrix HP is designed to maximize pre workout energy levels and post exercise recovery whilst maximizing the cellular environment for new muscle growth and preventing free-radical damage.
Q: Do you recommend a loading phase when taking Glutamine HP Matrix?
A: Loading products containing glutamine may be as beneficial as loading creatine monohydrate. Four servings of Glutamine HP Matrix for a week, in evenly divided doses throughout the day may be the most benefi cial way to begin Glutamine HP Matrix supplementation. One of the doses should be taken immediately after training and another should be taken before going to bed.
Q: In the past I’ve used a simple glutamine supplement—just glutamine by itself. What’s included in Glutamine HP Matrix that makes it a better product?
A: Besides 6.6 g of L-glutamine and glutamine peptides in each serving of Glutamine HP Matrix (4 teaspoons) there are: 500mg of Taurine: the second most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue, which has cell-volumizing and “insulin-mimicking” effects. 1g of L-alanine: an amino acid metabolite that may help preserve muscle glutamine concentrations and can also have some cell-volumizing effects. Antioxidants A, C and E: helps to combat free radicals produced from intense exercise. B Vitamin Complex: aiding the body’s ability in metabolising fats, carbohydrates and proteins, also helping to optimise the function of the nervous system. Combined, the ingredients in Glutamine HP Matrix may enhance the muscle preservation of glutamine, the most important amino acid for weight lifters, according to the Sports Supplement Review. Glutamine helps maintain proper cellular hydration or muscle cell volume. And when glutamine levels in muscle tissue falls, cell volume can decrease, which is catabolic — the opposite of what we want to build muscle tissue.
Q: If I’m already taking BetaGen, why would I want to take Glutamine HP Matrix? Don’t they do the same thing?
A: Although it seems as if Glutamine HP Matrix and BetaGen have very similar properties, the way they achieve them on the cellular level is very different. Glutamine HP Matrix is designed to aid in whole body muscle preservation, glutamine preservation, and cell volumisation. It incorporates a number of cell volumising agents (taurine, L-glutamine, glutamine peptides, L-alanine and B-complex) to hydrate the cell and allow it to optimize its function. It also provides a healthy dose of glutamine and glutamine precursors (6.6g grams total). BetaGen, conversely, works primarily through providing maintenance servings of HMB and creatine monohydrate. Creatine’s effects have been well documented, but where the confusion between the two products usually lies is in the muscle-preserving effects of HMB. HMB may assist the body in preserving muscle tissue, but where it’s thought to act is at the cell membrane. Whereas the glutamine and glutamine substrates present in the Glutamine HP Matrix are used to actively provide cell volume and vital amino acids, the working scientifi c theory on HMB is that it may supply a precursor to muscle and to the immune system that supports maximal cellular repair. Thus, the muscle cell is more rapidly repaired after exercise-induced damage, and muscle growth is supported by having an adequate supply of this substrate in the muscle for membrane expansion. The result is a more rapid return to positive protein synthesis. While BetaGen also incorporates cell volumisers into its formula (2g of L-glutamine and 500mg of taurine), cell volumisation is not the primary focus of the product. As such, it is not nearly as inclusive or well rounded as the profi le offered by the Glutamine HP Matrix.
